Artistic Director of RETROSPECTIVA
Eleana was born in Athens. She works as a director, writer, performer and physical performance teacher. She is the Artistic Director of RETROSPECTIVA. Eleana studied at the Department of Theater Studies, in the University of Athens and graduated from the Drama School Art Theater of Karolos Koun (2008). She continued her postgraduate studies (MA in Physical Performance & Intercultural Actors Training) at the University of Exeter in UK with Phillip Zarrilli as her mentor and graduated with DISTINCTION (2009). In the field of directing, her work focuses on research & creation of original text, the dialectical relationship between the present/past/future and the musicality of the performer, in a physical theater. Among others, she wrote and directed: ALGO-RYTHMOS a production of National Theatre of Northern Greece (Foyer EMS 2023, UTE FEST -Cluj 2023, THEATRO THISIO 2024), TRAVELLING PLAYERS (ELER Theatre, All Greece one Culture, Ministry of Culture 2022), RED NOTEBOOKS (NEOS KOSMOS Theatre, 2020). As an actress she has been honoured with the AWARD FOR YOUNG THEATER ARTIST from the Hellenic Association of Theater Critics at the Karolos Koun Awards 2016 for her performance as "Maria" in Georg Buchner's "Woyzeck" and as "I-330" in Yevgeny Zamyatin’s "We". As a maker and a performer Eleana has participated in productions in Greece and abroad. She has collaborated with institutions such as: La Colline Theater National, Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Grotowski Institute, National Theater of Northern Greece, etc. She has played the leading roles in the plays of contemporary & classic repertoire: MEDEAMATERIAL by H.Muller (Medea), Julius Ceasar by W. Shakespeare (Calpurnia) etc. She has been a founding member of Zero Point Theater Group (2009-18) led by director Savvas Stroumpos, that has its roof in the New Space of the ATTIS Theater by Theodoros Terzopoulos. During her collaboration with the company she played the leading roles in the plays: "The Mission" by H.Muller, "We" by Y. Zamyatin, "In the Penal Colony" by F. Kafka, "Woyzeck" by G. Buchner, "Metamorphosis" by F. Kafka, "The Justs" by A. Camus etc.. In the field of artistic education Eleana has taught and supervised Physical Performance Workshops for institutions such as EPIDAURUS LYCEUM | Ιnternational Summer School on Ancient Drama of Athens & Epidaurus Festival, La Colline Conservatoire (Paris), as well as for municipalities, drama schools, professional dance schools and performing arts festivals. She is member of the teaching staff at the professional drama school of "Art Theater - Karolos Koun " and the Drama School of National Theatre of Northern Greece..
