Eleana Georgouli

Eleana Georgouli works as a director, performer and physical performance trainer. She studied at the Department of Theater Studies, in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and graduated from the Drama School Art Theater of Karolos Koun (2008). She continued her postgraduate studies (MA in Physical Performance & Intercultural Actors Training) at the University of Exeter in Great Britain and graduated with MERIT (2009).
The recent years she has been directing. Direction came as a natural integration of a research and writing course that has been examining the following issues: the collection of personal testimonies in the vortex of historical developments (2nd World War, Civil War, Military Dictatorship), women's radical struggle and disobedience, the transference of historical memory to the third generation. In her directorial work, she examines the dynamic balance of narration between prose and intense physicality. Among other projects, she wrote and directed a theater of fact original play: THE RED NOTEBOOKS (an output of a three years research), based on the true story of her grandmother and ELAS resistance fighter Vasso Strofilla (Neos Kosmos Theatre 2020).
As an actress she has been honoured with the AWARD FOR YOUNG THEATER ARTIST from the Hellenic Association of Theater Critics at the Karolos Koun Awards 2016 for her performance as "Maria" in Georg Buchner's "Woyzeck" and as "I-330" in Yevgeny Zamyatin’s "We".
Since her return in Athens in 2009 Eleana has been working as an actress/ performer in theater and in cinema. She has participated in productions in Greece and abroad. She has been a founding member of Zero Point Theater Group. During her collaboration with the company (from 2008 to 2017) she played the leading roles in the plays: "The Mission" by H.Muller, "We" by Y. Zamyatin, "In the Penal Colony" by F. Kafka, "Woyzeck" by G. Buchner, "Metamorphosis" by F. Kafka, "The Justs" by A. Camus, "As you like it” by W. Shakespear, “To have done with the judgment of God” by A. Artaud, directed by Savvas Stroumbos.
In the field of artistic education Eleana has been researching the psychophysical aspects of performers training. She teaches and coordinates Physical Performance Workshops for actors, dancers and physical practitioners. She has been coordinated workshops at institutions such as EPIDAURUS LYCEUM | Ιnternational Summer School on Ancient Drama which operates under the Athens & Epidaurus Festival. She is a member of the teaching staff at the professional drama school of "Art Theater - Karolos Koun " (from 2017) and the "Drama School of Petra"(from 2019) as well as a certified yoga instructor (Yoga Alliance | E-RYT 500).
